Why live in Broughton, Edinburgh? The Broughton area can be found to the North East of Edinburgh City Centre, and West of Leith Walk. It is very popular with young professionals and students who’re looking for city centre living but without the high housing costs of the New Town.

Bars, restaurants, delis and independent boutiques line Broughton Street, which make it a vibrant and well sought after area. It is a very popular choice for weekend meandering with some of the best brunch options and coffee shops in Edinburgh followed by a casual stroll down to the Botanical Gardens.
The Omni Centre is at the top of Broughton Street, where you’ll find a Vue Cinema, Virgin Active Gym as well as Nando’s, Frankie & Benny’s, Tony Macaroni, Slug and Lettuce, Lloyds Bar, Cosmo Banquet Dining, Filling Station and the Glasshouse Hotel.
The downside? Parking is in high demand and is split between Permit Zone 2 and 6. As it is a central area, public green space and gardens are hard to come by, however Gayfield Square, popular in Rebus novels, provides a popular spot for BBQs and sunbathing during the summer.
Well connected? You couldn’t ask for better transport links than here. The tram terminus is located at York Place, at the top of Broughton Street, which can take you out to the airport and towards the West End of Edinburgh. There is also a wealth of bus options and Waverley Train Station is a short 15 minute walk from Broughton Street.
